Adventure. That’s the word that stood out to me. I was 19 years old. My sister had just arrived back from studying abroad in Ghana. At the time I did not understand what had happened to her. I did not understand why she had changed so much. Sure, she explained it at least five times a day but to understand the depth of her transformation required a knowledge of the One who transformed her. My sister had given her life to Christ and day by day He was changing her speech, thoughts and desires. She was not the same, but she seemed to had become everything she was meant to be.
“Transform me too. I want to be the good ground that receives the seed and multiplies,” I would earnestly cry out.
I recall the moment she said, “It’s like an everyday adventure.” Adventure you say? I like adventures. It turned out, though, the adventure was not what I quite imagined, but an adventure nonetheless. A few months later, when I came to know the One who transformed her, I was left in awe. “Transform me too. I want to be the good ground that receives the seed and multiplies,” I would earnestly cry out. In due time came the adventure: the adventure of dying to self, the adventure of recognizing my sin, the adventure of loving in action and in truth, the adventure of being everything the world tells me not to be, the adventure of being a living sacrifice for the Holy One, our Heavenly Father.
An adventure is not entirely fun. It is going into the unknown and facing many obstacles. But, there is a goal. There is a destination that compels you to continue to climb the mountain. In this case, it’s standing before the presence and glory of our God.
Not everyday will feel adventurous, not everyday will be triumphant. Some days you’ll be in the desert. Some days you’ll be surrounded by clouds of gray and feel confused. But remember, you do not need to understand the course or know every turn within the trail. You have a guide who has created the course. He will lead you and strengthen you through it. He will walk you through the adventure.
“…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
May your day be graciously adventurous,
Tati
